The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department released cell phone footage Wednesday of the police shooting of Kajieme Powell, a 25-year-old black man killed on Tuesday in St. Louis, according to St. Louis Public Radio. A convenience store owner cal…
Oh my god. I’m shaking from watching this video. Police said Kajieme Powell (the man killed by police yesterday in St. Louis) was approaching officers in the car when they got out and he came at them with a knife held in an overhand grip. Police said he was within 3-4 feet when the officers started shooting.
Someone filmed the encounter on their phone. I can’t see whether Kajieme has a knife, but his hands are down at his side, not raised with a knife in an overhand grip/aggressive posture. He did not approach the police, he was stopped when they got out of the car and came toward him. He got up onto the grass off the sidewalk to go AROUND the police, giving them/their car a wide birth. And the two cops both opened fire on him and shot him to death.
Definite trigger warning for the video in the link: shows the fatal shooting of a black man at the hands of the police
For the first time, the woman who was beaten by a CHP officer on the side of a Southern California freeway is speaking out. Marlene Pinnock says she feared for her life as the officer pummeled her in an incident that was captured on cellphone video.
goddamn out of control fucking cops…. something has to change in this country, soon.
A Staten Island man died Thursday after police placed him in a chokehold as they attempted to arrest him for selling untaxed cigarettes.
According to authorities, Eric Garner, 43, went into cardiac arrest and died at Richmond University Medical Center following the arrest that was filmed by several witnesses.
In the video, Eric can be seen telling police that he had not been selling cigarettes, repeatedly saying, ” I didn’t sell anything,” before insisting, “I’m minding my own business, please leave me alone.”
After a standoff, five officers tackled the 400-pound asthmatic Eric — with one placing him in a chokehold – and wrestled him to the ground as they attempted to put handcuffs on him.
As Eric lay on the ground, with one officer pushing his head into the pavement, he can be heard saying, “I can’t breath. I can’t breath,” over and over.
As the video ends, Eric appears to be unconscious as police clear onlookers while waiting awaiting paramedics.
According to his family, Eric, a married father with six children and two grandchildren, suffered from asthma.
“When I kissed my husband this morning, I never thought it would be for the last time,” Eric’s wife, Esaw, told reporters.
Police stated that Eric has been arrested multiple times for selling untaxed cigarettes, and records show he was due in court in October on three charges, including pot possession and selling untaxed cigarettes.
Witnesses at the scene claim Eric was breaking up a fight when police arrived, with Eric’s family stating that he didn’t have any cigarettes on him or in his car at the time of his death.
“They’re covering their asses; he was breaking up a fight. They harassed and harassed my husband until they killed him,” Eric’s wife said.
Within hours after Eric’s arrest and death, residents in the area hung handwritten posters on telephone poles near the scene with phrases like “no justice, no peace” and “Another innocent black man has been killed by police brutality. The NYPD must be stopped!”
My heart is heavy with the recent loss of little Genesis due to gun violence in my city of Paterson. Riding her scooter this past Saturday she was hit by a stray bullet. She was declared brain dead and the family has taken her off of life support and are attempting to raise money for her funeral.
This was a daughter, a student, an innocent child attempting to enjoy life in a downtrodden neighborhood. We pray for justice for Genesis and are attempting to alleviate the financial burden of a family already overcome with emotional burden.
Thank you in advance
Yesterday, my niece Genesis Rincon, 12 years old, was brutally murdered on July 5, 2014 at about 7pm, as she was innocently riding on her scooter. No one is ever prepared for a tragedy like this. One minute we are having fun as a family, and the next minute she is hit by stray bullets. We are asking for friends, family, and the community to come together and help the family in this very difficult time. All donations will go to funeral and burial expenses. Thanks to all.
HAS EVERYONE SEEN THIS? This happened recently. The story goes that this father was playing outside with his kids and went to go talk to this guy(the white man), because he was shooting his guns in the area where they were playing. The white man came over and shot him in the head FOR NO REASON. Did the same thing to the wife WHILE THE KIDS WERE WATCHING. Swear, white people don’t give a damn anymore about being discrete. This is why we need to tighten gun laws. This why we need to have a predominantly ethnic (People of Color) police force and investigation unit to combat this crap. We wonder why the Black Panther is calling for the death of George Zimmerman, but think about it. They grew up in a time where a white man could lynch you or kill you IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, and go about their business as if nothing even happened. We are now devolving back to a time where prosperity, peace, and higher knowledge will not come because whites feel as if they are being oppressed (meaning they don’t get to be superior to people of color anymore *white tears*)
I need everyone to either reblog this post or copy and paste the link so we can bring national attention to this story. It’s about time we make this an issue.
This simply sickens me. On top of the senseless violence and a ruined family, I am bothered by those who feel racism had nothing to do with this, and that gun control will have no effect. Bullshit on both accounts.
We Americans will believe our own lies to justify our ongoing tryst with our oil and our guns… sad. We need an intervention… stat!
